As I was raising the mill spindle, I ran out of travel but decided to “push it” just a little farther. I could see that the jack screw still had a few threads showing and I needed just a little more room under the spindle. I was rewarded with a cracking sound and the adjustment mechanism leaning over a little. Investigation revealed a clean break in the column head. This part is available but currently on backorder. Not a problem, I’ll just make my own. Being steel instead of cast, my replica should not break as easily. Follow along.
